NANS Southwest, led by Comrade Taiwo Owolewa, has taken a bold step towards advocating for students relief in LAUTECH, with a focus on tuition fee reduction and SUG revival. In a recent visit to the institution, Comrade Owolewa, alongside NANS JCC Oyo executives, NAUS CMS OYO, and the SSA Students matter to Oyo State Government, urged the management to consider the financial challenges faced by parents due to the current economic climate.

The Zonal Coordinator of NANS Southwest, Comrade Taiwo Owolewa, recently made several key appeals to the management of the institution. He requested a 35% reduction in tuition fees for new students (freshers), emphasizing the financial challenges faced by parents due to the current economic climate.

Furthermore, He called for a complete reduction in the fees for returning students (staylites), advocating that they pay the same amount as before, considering the tough circumstances.

In addition, he urged the management to hold the student union elections this semester and reinstate a full-fledged Student Union Government (SUG) instead of continuing with the caretaker committee.

The Coordinator also praised the management for its commitment to academic excellence and the swift academic calendar, highlighting the positive impact it has had on students.

The Vice Chancellor explained that the primary reason for the tuition fee increase was to ensure the provision of quality education. In response, the Coordinator suggested that, rather than raising tuition fees, the university should focus on boosting its internal revenue generation (IGR). This could be achieved by establishing businesses on campus, such as setting up factories like a pure water production facility, as well as exploring other innovative ways to generate funds. Additionally, the Coordinator recommended seeking support from the institution’s alumni and urged for greater government intervention to ease the financial burden. The Coordinator emphasized that these strategies would be more effective than making education more difficult for students through higher fees.

Through these appeals, he sought to balance the financial concerns of students with the need for effective student governance and continued academic progress.

In conclusion, the Coordinator discussed employment opportunities and sought job placements for our unemployed graduates. The Vice Chancellor promised to assist with this and mentioned that, even if there are no vacancies at LAUTECH, he would make efforts to find opportunities elsewhere.
