ACTIVISTA NIGERIA CONDEMNS VIOLATION OF RIGHTS AND CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY FOR DETAINED WOMEN ADVOCATING FOR FOOD JUSTICE

Activista Nigeria strongly condemns the violation of the fundamental rights of the women who were detained for their courageous advocacy for food justice in Niger State. The arbitrary arrest and detention of these women represent a flagrant abuse of power and a stark reminder of the challenges faced by grassroots activists in Nigeria.

The Nigerian government, particularly its security agencies, must be held accountable for their role in perpetrating this injustice. It is unacceptable that those tasked with protecting citizens’ rights are instead infringing upon them, thereby stifling dissent and suppressing voices calling for positive change.

While we acknowledge the release of the detained women as a step in the right direction, it is imperative that we address the systemic issues that allowed such violations to occur in the first place. Activista Nigeria calls on the government to always prioritize the protection of citizens’ rights and to ensure that justice is served for those whose rights have been violated.

Furthermore, we urge the government to deliver on its mandate to the people by implementing people-friendly policies that address the root causes of poverty and inequality, and by creating an enabling environment for all Nigerians to thrive.

As we continue to stand in solidarity with the women who bravely spoke out against food injustice, Activista Nigeria remains committed to advocating for social justice, human rights, and sustainable development across Nigeria.
