Akpabio Champions ‘Every Home A Garden’ Initiative with Students in Akwa Ibom

In a show of solidarity with the “Every Home A Garden Initiative” spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President of the Senate, Her Excellency Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, took the lead on Wednesday by engaging students from Saint John Paul II College Uyo in a farming expedition within Akwa Ibom State.

The excursion centered on the production of garri, providing the students with hands-on experience in agricultural practices. While many Nigerians observed the May 1st International Workers Day holiday, these students delved into the various stages of cassava processing, from planting to harvesting and finally turning it into garri.

For many of the students, this was their first encounter with farming, and they embraced the opportunity to learn and contribute to the process. The practical nature of the excursion allowed them to grasp the intricacies of agricultural production, enriching their understanding of food cultivation.

As the day concluded, the students proudly held the final product – garri – in their hands, marking the culmination of a rewarding and educational experience.

The “Every Home A Garden” initiative, operating under the Renewed Hope Initiative of Nigeria’s First Lady, emerges as a commendable strategy to bolster food sufficiency across the nation.
