Hon. Abila encourages Iba residents, staff over Tree Planting in the community, highlights benefits

In line with Lagos State Tree Planting Exercise, themed “In Harmony with   Nature” Hon. Yisa Abiola Jubril ,  the Chairman, Iba LCDA has encouraged the residents and staff of Iba LCDA to engage in planting and protection of trees in their respective communities during the Tree Planting Day Exercise held at Iba Town Hall Thursday, July 14, 2022.

He said “Over time, IBA LCDA is known for encouraging the Planting and protection of trees in the environment in other to stimulate healthier and beautiful environment.

I will encourage you all to  join the State in planting of trees and protecting them, because the existence of trees have a lot of benefits in the environment”

Abila highlighted some benefits of tree planting in the environment.

“Trees make life nicer. It has been shown that spending time among trees and green spaces reduces the amount of stress that we carry around with us in our daily lives.”

“Trees improve our air quality by filtering harmful dust and pollutants such as ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide from the air we breathe.”

“Trees  give off oxygen that we need to breathe.”

“Trees reduce the amount of storm water runoff, which reduces erosion and pollution in our waterways and may reduce the effects of flooding.”

“Many species of wildlife depend on trees for habitat. Trees provide food, protection, and homes for many birds and mammals.”

Also, Hon. Yisa Abiola noted that the children can as well benefit from tree planting because they have been shown to retain more of the information taught in schools if they spend some of their outdoors in green spaces.

Hon. Abila appreciated HRM. Oba Sulaiman Raji-Adeshina (Oniba of Iba land), Vice Chairman of Iba, Hon. Thomas Ayodele, Councilors, Supervisors, Staff, and  everyone present at the event.
