MY DOORS ARE OPEN FOR CONSTRUCTIVE ENGAGEMENTS IN THE INTEREST OF OUR STUDENTS – LASU VC

…….says at the Inauguration Ceremony of the 33rd LASUSU Executive Members and Parliamentarians

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, at the inauguration ceremony of the 33rd Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU) Executives and Parliamentarians has reiterated that her doors are always open for constructive engagements in the interest of all the students.

She disclosed this in her speech at the ceremony which was held on Monday, 8th May 2023, at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

The Professor of Physiology congratulated the newly sworn-in President, Comrade Agoro Abdulrahmon Oreoluwa, the entire members of the Executive Council as well as the Honourable Speaker of the Students’ Parliamentary Council (SPC), Rt. Hon. Sanusi Modiu Babatunde, and all other parliamentarians.

The Vice Chancellor enjoined them to partner with the University Management to ensure that the rights of students are protected at all times.

Speaking further, she said “…. I advise that you waste no time in adding value to the lives of your students and running with your campaign promises. Resist the urge to engage in activities that are capable of putting the union into disrepute, and don’t make yourselves a tool in the hands of mischievous individuals in the society. Understand that your primary concern is your educational pursuit and commitment to your oath of office.”

The Dean, Students’ Affairs, Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko, in his address appreciated the University Management for the support and assistance given to the students.

While addressing the newly elected students’ leaders, the Dean stated that “…to have been elected is an indication that the students believe in you and have responded to your request, obey them.”

Prof. Olumoko also advised them to represent the University well and employ the right channels of communication while carrying out their duties.

The Chairman, Independent Electoral Committee, Comrade Aina Oluwafemi, in his remarks advised the newly elected leaders to lead by example, be open to feedbacks, criticism and listen to the concerns and ideas of their colleagues.

In his acceptance speech, the new President, Comrade Agoro Abdulrahmon Oreoluwa, appreciated the students for the support, trust and confidence demonstrated through the power of their votes. He also promised to work closely with the University Management to ensure a conducive learning environment for all students.

Com. Agoro said “…We will ensure an open door policy and we shall ensure the demands of Lasuites are met for more secure and safe LASU students Community. We shall establish a partnership between the police, the Campus Marshals and the students,” he stated.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of Certificates of Office to the Functionaries and Executives and Certificates of Service to Members of the Electoral Committee by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni.

The Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs Division, Mrs. Ashiru-Mobolaji Z.F., gave the vote of thanks.

The event was attended by members of the University Management, Deans of Faculties and Schools, Directors of Centres, Parents/Guardians, Students, and other members of the University Community were also in attendance.

Members of staff of the Students’ Affairs Division, Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR), University Multimedia Centre and Security Unit were equally in attendance.
