Ahead of next year’s governorship election in Ondo State, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Southern Senatorial District of the state have called for the zoning of the party’s governorship ticket to the south.

The Daily Trust reports that the demand by PDP leaders was part of the resolution reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Okitipupa at the weekend.

The leaders also agreed that Ondo South should also produce a consensus candidate for next year’s contest.

In a communiqué signed on behalf of the PDP leaders from the south by Adeolu Akinseye, the party leaders from the southern senatorial district vowed to produce the next governor of the state and bring succor to the people.

“We shall work with other critical stakeholders in the state to ensure that Ondo South produces the next elected governor of Ondo State.

“Ondo South shall present only one credible and acceptable candidate to contest the next year’s election.

“All grievances and bitterness of the past shall become history as the party reenacts its winning streak,” the communique read in part.

The incumbent governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who is from the Northern Senatorial District of the state, took over from former Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

Mimiko, from the Central Senatorial District, also ruled the state for eight years.
