30B Federal Intervention to State Governments: Akpabio Clarifies Statement

In response to recent misconceptions circulating in the public domain, Senate President Akpabio has issued a clarification regarding his remarks made during a plenary session on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. 

The statement addresses the allocation of an unverified cumulative sum of approximately #30 billion to sub-national governments by the Federal Government for various interventions aimed at addressing food shortages across the country.

The President of the Senate expressed regret over the misinterpretation of his comments, emphasizing that his intention was to encourage state governments to collaborate with the Federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, to implement strategic interventions to alleviate the prevailing economic challenges in the nation.

Acknowledging the crucial role of state governments as functional partners in the efforts of the current administration, the Senate President reaffirmed his commitment to fostering teamwork and collaboration. He urged sub-national governments not to be swayed by misunderstandings of his statement, emphasizing the importance of unity in tackling the socio-economic challenges facing the nation.

Furthermore, the President of the Senate commended the ongoing efforts of governors in mitigating the adverse effects of the current economic environment and called for increased cooperation to advance the agenda for national renewal.
