DHDEI holds Symposium on Vocational Skills Acquisition

Speakers urge youths to learn a skill to be gainfully self-employed

Dakiz Human Development and Empowerment Initiative on Saturday, July 15, 2023, organized a symposium tagged Ondo Ekimogun Youth Development Conference with the topic “Skills acquisition through vocational training: a panacea for job creation”.

The programme saw youths gathered in their numbers as resourceful guest speakers Prof. Nireti Duyilemi and Engr. Ayotunde Bally engaged the youths in various discussions and presentations.

In their presentations, the keynote speakers both urged the youth to learn a vocational skill to become gainfully self-employed and productive. They lauded the organizers Dakiz Human Development and Empowerment Initiative for taking a great role in ensuring that youths acquire vocational skills.

The panel discussion had as panelists the Vice Chairman of Ondo West LG Hon. Akintunde Folajimi who was standing in for the Chairman Hon. Ebenezer Akinsulire and other reputable members which included Mr. Aremu Joshua (Gbenga Fawehinmi Foundation), Mrs. Adeyinka Tugbiyele, and Mr. Gbenga Dada who are both staffs of Adeyemi Federal University of Education.

Participants in the programme included youths from different youth groups in Ondo West as well as beneficiaries of DHDEI who all appreciated the organizers for bringing the programme to their zone.

The Chairman of the Ondo West, Hon. Ebenezer Akinsulire through his representative the Vice Chairman of Ondo West, Hon. Akintunde pledged to partner with DHDEI in the subsequent empowerment programmes in the region. In the same vein, Engr. Bally one of the keynote speakers at the conference and the Gbenga Fawehinmi Foundation also assured the organizers their willingness to partner for subsequent programmes.

One of the important moments of the conference is the moment when beneficiaries of the Dakiz Human Development and Empowerment Initiative shared their testimonies about the Initiative.

The programme is part of DHDEI’s focus on achieving its goal of youth empowerment through vocational skills acquisition and serves as an orientation for youths in the Ondo West Local government area of Ondo State. The programme was held at Secretariat Hall, Ondo West Local Government Secretariat, Fagun, Ondo West, and started at about 11 am on Saturday.
